Great News: Royce Lewis is set to return to the Minnesota Twins lineup

No player has been more productive during their short stints with the Minnesota Twins over the past two seasons than Royce Lewis. Known as Mr. Grand Slam, he started the season with a home run against the Kansas City Royals before landing on the injured list. With his return imminent, he won’t have far to go next week.

Heading into the 2024 Major League Baseball season, the Minnesota Twins had high expectations for Royce Lewis. Fully healthy and slated to play third base next to Carlos Correa, his home run power and vibrant presence were qualities Rocco Baldelli eagerly anticipated. Unfortunately, his season came to an abrupt halt with a severe quad injury.

New York, New York for Royce Lewis?

Royce Lewis has advanced to playing rehab games with the Triple-A St. Paul Saints and is currently on the road in upstate New York, competing against the Rochester Red Wings (the Nationals affiliate and former Triple-A home of the Twins). This means he won’t have far to travel when he rejoins the major league team next week in the Bronx to face the Yankees.

Although traveling to Texas might have been a brief homecoming for Royce Lewis, it makes the most sense for him to continue refining his timing before returning. Minnesota has a three-game series against the Houston Astros starting on Friday, followed by a flight north to New York for three games after Monday’s off-day.

Why getting Royce Lewis back is like adding a HOF bat to the lineup

Few places in Major League Baseball are as celebrated or revered as Yankee Stadium. Although the current version isn’t the original site of so much history, playing a storied franchise at their home field always attracts top talent. Calling Royce Lewis anything less than one of the sport’s best would be an understatement.

Just a few weeks ago, Aaron Boone’s New York Yankees visited Target Field and swept the Twins in a three-game series. Minnesota managed to score only one run, and those losses sparked an ugly seven-game losing streak. Now aiming to turn things around and even the season series, the Twins would gladly welcome a sweep to return the favor.

Lewis wasted no time making an impact this season, returning with an impressive slash line featuring a 1.000 batting average and a 3.500 OPS. With both a home run and a single to his name, Rocco Baldelli is hopeful that his presence will energize a lineup that includes several underperforming players.
