BREAKING NEWS: Another brilliant star commits to Arizona State football

When you know, Cam Dyer declared, you just know.

A few days spent in the Arizona desert completely altered Dyer’s plans. Despite having four official visits scheduled for June, he found clarity after just one trip.

Dyer made it official on Tuesday night, revealing his decision to sign with Arizona State, where he had visited over the weekend. “I’m relieved to have found my place,” he expressed.

Interestingly, Dyer won’t be continuing as a quarterback in college. Arizona State, transitioning from the Pac-12 to the Big 12, recruited the 6-foot-4 athlete as a wide receiver. Despite being sought after by schools for various positions, such as quarterback, defensive back, or receiver, Dyer is embracing the change. “If switching from my dream of being a college quarterback to pursuing a career as a receiver in the NFL is what’s best for my future, then that’s the path I’ll take,” he remarked. Former NFL star Hines Ward is ASU’s receivers coach, adding a layer of excitement to Dyer’s new journey.

Dyer anticipates the mental adjustment to be the most significant challenge. However, he feels confident in his physical abilities. Named the 2023 Gatorade Player of the Year after leading his team to victory in the Class 6A championship, Dyer plans to finish his senior season as La Cueva’s quarterback before graduating early. He aims to kickstart his college career by joining ASU ahead of schedule next year, with plans to sign his national letter of intent in December.

His other finalist options, including Houston, UTEP, and UT-San Antonio, have been shelved following his visit to Tempe. “The campus, the facilities, were amazing,” Dyer remarked. “But more than anything, it was the culture that captivated me. Once I experienced it all, I knew immediately.”

Seeing his family also embrace ASU as home sealed the deal for Dyer. He emphasized the belief from Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham and Ward in his potential NFL talent, feeling assured about his future prospects.
