Journalist Alan Nixon claims that Ipswich Town is still interested in goalkeeper Carl Rushworth of Brighton & Hove Albion as they look for a replacement for Vaclav Hladky.
The 22-year-old has been on loan with Swansea City in the Championship this season, furthering his development across different EFL divisions. His impressive performances with Swansea have sparked speculation about a potential move to the Premier League.
Rushworth’s loan to the Championship followed a standout season in 2022/23 with Lincoln City in League One, where he caught attention after a previous stint with Walsall in League Two. He made a significant impact at Lincoln City, consistently playing under then-manager Mark Kennedy.
Reports of Ipswich’s interest in Rushworth surfaced recently, indicating that the club is keeping tabs on his situation at Brighton & Hove Albion. Despite his success at Lincoln, Rushworth signed a contract extension with Brighton, tying him to the club until 2027. This raises uncertainty about Brighton’s willingness to sell him permanently. However, there’s a possibility of a loan deal if a permanent transfer doesn’t materialize.
As a Premier League newcomer, Ipswich is exploring goalkeeper options amidst uncertainty surrounding their current number one, Hladky. The 33-year-old took over as the first choice goalkeeper this season due to an injury to Christian Walton, and his performances led to a contract extension after the club’s promotion.
The future of Hladky with Ipswich remains uncertain, making Rushworth the preferred choice to potentially replace him.
