As the MLB Trade Deadline approaches, many teams are closely watching the Toronto Blue Jays, with star shortstop Bo Bichette becoming a frequent subject of trade rumors.
With the deadline nearing and the weather heating up, teams are beginning to identify themselves as either buyers or sellers. The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the teams drawing significant attention.
Despite high expectations, the Blue Jays have had a disappointing season. With the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees performing exceptionally well, Toronto faces a tough challenge to contend in their division.
If the Blue Jays opt to sell and trade some of their promising young players, they could secure substantial returns. Bob Nightengale has provided insights into the situation in Toronto, particularly concerning Bo Bichette.
“Rival executives believe that if the Toronto Blue Jays don’t turn it around, and are unable to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette to extensions, they will be open to moving them,” Nightengale reported. “The Chicago Cubs have privately discussed the possibility of trying to acquire Guerrero at the trade deadline.”
It’s quite surprising to see both Vladimir Guerrero and Bo Bichette potentially on the trading block, as they were expected to be key players for the franchise for many years. However, given the Blue Jays’ struggles, it seems that anyone could be traded for the right offer.
Bichette, in particular, has had a disappointing start to the season, contributing to the team’s underperformance. After hitting over .300 with 20 home runs last year, his numbers have significantly dropped, currently batting under .240 with just four home runs in 63 games.
At 26, Bo Bichette still has considerable potential, but this season has been a down year for him. For the Toronto Blue Jays, trading him now would be a difficult decision, especially given his previous success as a young player.
