The Los Angeles Dodgers have added pitcher José Hernández to their roster, securing him from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a transaction involving cash on Thursday.
Hernández found himself designated for assignment by the Pirates earlier in the week after making appearances in seven games. During his time with Pittsburgh, the 26-year-old southpaw showcased a record of 1 win and 1 loss, along with a 3.38 ERA and four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.
His tenure with the Pirates spanned across parts of two seasons, where he amassed a record of 2 wins and 4 losses, tallying a 4.82 ERA across 56 innings with 66 strikeouts.
Originally hailing from the Dominican Republic, Hernández initially joined the Dodgers as an international free agent back in 2016 before being acquired by the Pirates through the Rule 5 draft in 2022.
To accommodate Hernández on the roster, the Dodgers transferred right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier to the 60-day injured list.
