The Arizona Diamondbacks have brought back All-Star Geraldo Perdomo from the injured list following his absence of around two months due to a right knee injury. This decision, announced by the D-backs on Tuesday, involves sending first baseman/outfielder Pavin Smith to Triple-A Reno.
Aged 24, Perdomo had participated in seven games this season before undergoing surgery to mend a torn meniscus. While he demonstrates competence in offense, his true strength lies in his defensive prowess, where he serves as a crucial component in the team’s middle infield.
Perdomo was slated to start in Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, positioned ninth in the batting lineup. His performance in the previous season included a .246 batting average alongside six home runs, 47 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases.
The D-backs, reigning National League champions, are seeking a catalyst to boost their performance as they aim to surpass their current record of 31-35. Notably, the team still grapples with injuries to key players such as center fielder Alek Thomas and pitchers Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, and Eduardo Rodriguez.
