Aston Villa and West Ham United are gearing up for a competitive pursuit of Icelandic striker Albert Gudmundsson, as reported by the Italian outlet calciomeracto. The 26-year-old, who currently plays for Genoa in Serie A, has experienced a remarkable surge in performance over the last two years, drawing widespread attention. Gudmundsson’s impressive track record includes seven goals in 14 appearances this season, adding to the 14 he scored in 38 matches during the 2022/23 campaign.
Despite Genoa rewarding him with a new contract running through 2027, both Aston Villa and West Ham United seem undeterred by the asking price, as indicated by the Italian outlet. The clubs appear willing to meet Genoa’s demands, despite the latter’s hesitance to part ways with the striker.
Meanwhile, in the realm of transfer speculation for Aston Villa, midfielder Douglas Luiz has become a focal point of interest. The Brazilian player has been delivering outstanding performances for the Villans in the 2023/24 season, attracting attention from some of the world’s leading clubs. Notably, Arsenal is reportedly “hell-bent” on securing the 25-year-old’s signature, according to Football Insider. The Gunners are purportedly prepared to offer significant resources to manager Mikel Arteta to facilitate the transfer, demonstrating a strong determination to acquire Luiz.
With five goals and one assist in 12 Premier League appearances this season and a contract extending over two more years, prying Luiz away from Villa Park would require a substantial and compelling offer.
