Newcastle United and Everton engaged in talks last week regarding a potential swap deal involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yankuba Minteh between Tyneside and Merseyside.
However, negotiations hit a snag as Newcastle couldn’t agree on a fee for Calvert-Lewin, and Everton couldn’t match Minteh’s valuation. Both clubs are eager to finalize deals this summer to ensure compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Sources indicate that discussions are ongoing between Newcastle and Everton to reach a compromise that satisfies both parties. The deals need to be completed by Sunday evening to meet the June 30th accounting deadline for the current period under PSR regulations.
Both clubs are aiming for deals close to £40 million for each player to avoid breaching financial regulations. Newcastle sees Minteh as a solution to their PSR shortfall but has struggled to find a suitable buyer, with Lyon interested but Minteh preferring a move to Everton.
Meanwhile, Calvert-Lewin is interested in joining Newcastle after turning down a new contract offer from Everton, eager to work under Magpies manager Eddie Howe.
With both players expressing willingness to move, attention now turns to finalizing the transfer fees between the two clubs. The looming Sunday deadline is crucial, as failing to meet it could result in PSR breaches and potential points deductions for both clubs.
