Sabres sign Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Dennis Gilbert and Jacob Bryson to contracts worth millions that could lead to Bankruptcy

The Buffalo Sabres have announced the signing of forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel, along with defensemen Dennis Gilbert and Jacob Bryson, to contracts on July 1.

Aube-Kubel has agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal. He played for the Washington Capitals in the 2023-24 season, recording six goals and 10 assists in 60 games. He also appeared in three Stanley Cup Playoff games but did not score. The 28-year-old previously won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2021-22 season. In his career spanning 282 games, Aube-Kubel has amassed 31 goals and 78 points, having also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Avalanche, and Capitals.

Bryson signed a one-year contract worth $900,000, following the Sabres’ decision not to qualify his contract just a day earlier. During the 2023-24 season, he played 36 games for Buffalo, contributing one goal and seven assists.

Gilbert’s contract is also for one year, valued at $825,000. The 27-year-old spent the previous season with the Calgary Flames, where he notched one goal and six assists in 35 games. Gilbert has had stints with the Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, and Flames over the course of his career so far.
